Founded in less than two decades, Realm Cellars has already established as one of the most sought after estates in the world. The passionate founder Juan Mercado was a medic in the army during the first Gulf War, then a registered nurse in the ICU before he decided to drop everything to pursue his dream and move to Napa Valley. He started Realm Cellars with the ambition of producing wines of excellent quality in small amounts. 

Realm Cellars was awarded “the most impressive newcomer” of Napa Valley by Wine Spectator in merely three years after their first production. As the saying goes, the rest is history… However, Realm Cellars will not be what it is today without the support from a great team. Michel Rolland, the “Flying Winemaker” helped out Juan with the blending of 2009 vintage and joined the team as a Consultant Winemaker. Winemaker Benoit Touquette turned down his offer from cult wineries to join Realm in 2011, bringing in experience from his roles at Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle and others. Juan’s passion and determination of turning his passion into a thriving business excited Scott Becker and he decided to join Realm in 2012 as a Managing Partner. The Harvard Business School graduate started to bringing in expertise in finance and management and provided better structure for Realm.

The young winery has quickly become a phenomenon in Napa Valley with several 100-point ratings. Robert Parker called Realm wines “outrageously delicious” and Antonio Galloni said “this is a gorgeous set of wines that deserve considerable attention”.

The business continued to grow and it has taken into the next level in 2015, when Realm purchased Hartwell property Estate winery and finally gave the brand a home after 13 years of winemaking.
