The story of Kosta Browne begins with two friends, Dan Kosta and Michael Browne. The year was 1997 and they were working at John Ash & Co, a popular restaurant in Santa Rosa, California. Dan was the General Manager and Michael was the sommelier. Apart from food, their real passion was something bigger, bolder, and more brazen than they had ever done before: They want to make pinot noir.
Dan Kosta and Michael Browne devoted all their passion and pooled their tips to make wines. Since 2002, they’ve made 66 wines that have earned 90 points or higher from major wine critics. In 2009 (the greatest vintage for California Pinot Noir), the team made 11 outstanding Pinots Noirs, including the #1 in the "Top 100 Wines of the Year 2011" from Wine Spectator; namely, 2009 Kosta Browne Sonama Coast Pinot Noir.
Sonoma Coast is one of the largest AVAs in Sonoma County. Excellent wines of different styles are made in the land. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the leading varietals.
Pinot Noir in California can be of different styles. Compared to more restrained Burgundian style, Californian Pinot Noir is generally full-bodied, budding with luscious fruit and a touch of new oak. Kosta Browne Pinot Noir also tends to be more fruit-driven and powerful.
